Cockroach Exterminator in NYC

Roach Control for NYC Apartments, Buildings and Businesses

NYC Extermination gets rid of cockroaches in New York City apartments, apartment buildings, restaurants, offices and homes. As your roach exterminator, we start with a free on-site inspection to find where they hide and how they get in, then treat those spots with targeted, EPA-registered products and seal the gaps they travel through.

Roaches are hard to beat on your own because most of them stay hidden. For every one you see, many more are living behind appliances, under sinks and inside walls. In apartment buildings they travel between units along pipes and wiring, so treating one kitchen often isn’t enough. That’s why we look at the whole picture, and for landlords and managers we plan pest control for the whole building.

Common Cockroaches in New York City

Four species account for most roach problems in the city:

  • German cockroaches
  • American cockroaches
  • Oriental cockroaches
  • Brown-banded cockroaches
German Cockroach

German Cockroaches

Small and light brown with two dark stripes behind the head. German cockroaches live in kitchens and bathrooms, breed fast and are the roach most NYC apartments deal with.

American Cockroaches

The largest common species, reddish brown and often called a water bug. They live in basements, boiler rooms and sewers and come up through pipes and drains. Not sure which one you have? Read water bug vs. cockroach.

Oriental Cockroaches

Dark brown to black and slow moving. Oriental cockroaches like cool, damp places such as basements, crawl spaces and drains. Our Oriental cockroach guide covers them in detail.

Brown-banded Cockroaches

Small, with light bands across the wings. Unlike other roaches, they prefer warm, dry spots like high cabinets, the backs of picture frames and the inside of furniture and electronics.

Signs You Have Roaches

Roaches hide during the day, so the signs often show up before the bugs do. Look for:

  • Droppings that look like ground pepper or coffee grounds, behind appliances, in cabinets and along baseboards.
  • Egg cases, small brown capsules tucked into cracks and corners.
  • A musty smell in cabinets or closets with heavy activity.
  • Roaches in daylight, which usually means a large population.

If you see any of these, call early. A small problem is much easier to clear than one that has spread through a building. Our guide to roaches in NYC explains why they’re so common here.

Roach Control for Businesses and Buildings

Restaurants, food businesses, offices, stores and warehouses can’t afford a roach in front of a customer or an inspector. We inspect kitchens, storage, waste areas and the gaps around pipes, treat where roaches live and set a service schedule that fits how your business runs. In apartment buildings, we treat the units with activity, the units around them and common areas like basements and trash rooms. Learn more about commercial pest control.

Roach Control for Apartments and Homes

In apartments and houses, roaches gather where there’s food, water and warmth: kitchens, bathrooms and under sinks. We treat those areas with targeted products, seal the gaps around pipes and under cabinets, and tell you which small changes keep them from coming back.

Before any treatment we ask about children, pets, health and allergy concerns and plan around them.

How We Get Rid of Cockroaches

Every roach job follows Integrated Pest Management, the approach New York City asks building owners to use:

  • Free on-site inspection. We find the species, where they hide and how they get in.
  • Targeted treatment. EPA-registered products go where roaches live instead of being sprayed across the whole room.
  • Sealing. We close the gaps around pipes, under sinks and behind appliances that roaches travel through.
  • Follow-up. If roaches come back, call us and we’ll schedule a follow-up inspection. One-time treatment or regular service, whichever fits.

NYC Extermination is family owned and has worked in New York City for 25 years. Founder Jeffrey Pasternack is a New York State DEC Certified Commercial Pesticide Technician in Structural and Rodent Control, and we offer same-day emergency service across the five boroughs. Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have roaches in a clean apartment?

In NYC buildings, roaches often come from somewhere else: a neighbor’s apartment, the basement or the trash room, traveling along pipes and through gaps in the walls. A clean kitchen helps, but sealing the gaps and treating where they live is what stops them.

How long does it take to get rid of roaches?

It depends on the species and how far they’ve spread. A small problem can clear after one treatment, while a large German cockroach population usually needs a follow-up visit. We’ll tell you what to expect after the inspection.

Are roach treatments safe for children and pets?

We ask about children, pets, health and allergy concerns before we treat and plan around them. We use EPA-registered products and apply them only where roaches live, rather than spraying whole rooms.

How much does a roach exterminator cost in NYC?

It depends on the size of the space, the species, how far the problem has spread and whether you need one visit or regular service. The on-site inspection and the estimate are free.

Do you treat whole apartment buildings?

Yes. Roaches move between units, so we treat the apartments with activity, the ones around them and the common areas. See pest control for apartment buildings.
